Child Abuse Intervention Centers
Child Abuse Intervention Centers are designed to minimize trauma to child abuse victims by coordinating the local community's response for the purpose of investigation, assessment and intervention in reports of suspected child abuse.
Services
Services, based on a child's needs, are provided in a neutral, child-friendly environment. Services include:
- Interviews of suspected victims of child abuse
- Medical evaluations
- Mental health treatment and/or referrals
- Provision or coordination of other victim services
- Other services may be offered depending upon individual community needs.
Partnerships
Centers work in close partnership with law enforcement, DHS Child Welfare, and other medical and mental health providers.
Child abuse intervention centers are located throughout Oregon, providing quality services to local communities.
These centers have joined together to form the Oregon Network of Child Abuse Intervention Centers, working in partnership to improve the availability of quality, comprehensive services for child abuse victims throughout the state.
Through collaboration, the Oregon Network of Child Abuse Intervention Centers works toward improving services for child abuse victims on a statewide basis, building the capacity of local communities to provide the best possible care for children and increasing resources for child abuse intervention.
Funding
Child abuse intervention centers are nonprofit organizations. Some are private, independent community organizations, others are associated with hospitals or public agencies.
Funding sources vary among centers. Centers rely on foundations and government grants, third party payments, corporate contributions, donations and fundraising events to help cover operating expenses. No child is turned away for inability to pay.
In addition, the Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Intervention Account (CAMI) was created by the Oregon Legislature in 1993, to help support the development and operation of community-based child abuse intervention centers.
